Beaver Ecology with FDRD
Wetland Ecology and Beavers with Town of Breckenridge Naturalist
Beavers are an important friend to headwaters. They create a reservoir of water in their ponds and the soils around them, helping to retain water in climate change.
FDRD is excited to be hosting a hike with Town of Breckenridge Naturalist, Ella Garner. We will explore the Cucumber Gulch Nature Preserve and learn about the wetland ecosystem that dominates the area. In addition, we will learn about the beavers that call the nature preserve home.
This is a unique educational offering by the Town of Breckenridge and space is limited. All FDRD educational offerings are free but make sure to sign up ahead of time to reserve your spot.

Swan River Fence Repair
Our chapter’s involvement has been canceled due to an inability to oversee our involvement. HOWEVER, you can still participate. Contact Jordan Mead at Jordan.mead@summitcountyco.gov. Our chapter will be participating in other Swan River-related events, and we’ll keep you apprised.
The goal of this event is to repair the fence along Reach A of the Swan River Restoration. The fence strongly discourages off-road recreation vehicles from entering the restored area. Volunteers will need to sign waivers upon arrival before working. Again, contact Jordan Mead for more details.
Women's Casting Clinic
This is the second women’s casting clinic. We’ll meet again at the Maryland Creek Park (below Summit Sky Ranch). Email Carol at ColoradoFlyCasting@gmail.com to let know whether you’ll be attending and if you’ll need to borrow a fly rod. If we have more than four students, she will get another instructor to help out so that everyone can get some indivualized attention. In the meantime, learn how to tie a clinch knot. See Clinch Knot Tying Instructions - RIO Products - Bing video.
Meeting / Social
Meet at the Silverthorne Pavilion. Bring whatever you’d like to grill, and bring a small grill if you have one. The chapter has a small one, but it can only handle about 4-6 items at a time. Bring a side dish too, if you’d like to share something. Kendra of BRWG will give us an update on the Integrated Water Management Plan (IWMP), the status of the science, fundraising and what the funds are used for.
